In the 2023 call for six-year periods, these obligations respect the possible assignment of intellectual property rights in favor of publishers and are restricted to the deposit in open access repositories, not to the open deposit of the works. What must be open access are the repositories, not the deposited content. The latter may be embargoed for the time required by the agreement with the publisher. Beyond the obligations derived from the Science, Technology and Innovation Act (of 2011 and its subsequent amendment of 2022), it is recommended that all applicants move forward with the deposit of their contributions (including those prior to June 1, 2011), regardless of their date of publication, to ensure the preservation of the works and facilitate their dissemination.
