Real Decreto 99/2011, de 28 de enero, por el que se regulan las enseñanzas oficiales de doctorado, states that all approved theses must be deposited in a repository and be open access. Nevertheless, exploitation rights transferred to publishers must be respected.

Therefore, for the open dissemination of a thesis by compendium it is necessary to have the exploitation rights, either because as author you have kept them, or because you have the permission of the publisher. If the policy of the journal where you have published an article does not allow its dissemination, you will have to request permission indicating that it is for a thesis by compendium. In addition, you should take into account the possible embargo periods, i.e. the time that has to elapse between the publication of the article and open access to it. The embargoes must be indicated in the thesis management application.

Regarding the structure of the thesis and how to adapt the articles, you must comply with the generic criteria established by the Doctoral School and its regulations. In addition to this, you must meet the specific requirements set by the Academic Committee of the PhD programme you have chosen.

Please contact the Doctoral School to clarify any doubts you may have about the presentation of the thesis and also talk to your supervisor for guidance on how to comply with the requirements of the programme.
