Choosing the right journal is important in order to ensure your article is visible and has an impact. Aspects such as the editorial board's reputation, ratio of acceptance of articles, delay in publication or visibility and impact of the publication have traditionally been considered when evaluating journals. Check the Journal Citation Report to see the impact of journals.

These criteria must be supplemented with others related to the journal's policy on open access, factors such as the cost of the APC and the embargo period, where applicable, especially if the article to be published has been funded with open access requirements. Check the journals' websites for information on the open access policy for Sherpa/Romeo journals and information on APCs. Journals with open access policies can be checked in the DOAJ directory.

If the journal's policy does not allow open access, negotiate with the publisher to sign an "addendum" that at least allows it to be deposited in your repository.
