Using the same signature in all publications throughout your professional career is important, as this will avoid dispersion of production while also improving bibliometric indicators such as h-index.
In 2008, UPV signed a regulation on scientific signatures that basically sets out the following indications:
- In terms of the author's name
- If the surname is uncommon, use just this surname and the complete given name, or the initial or initials in the case of compound given names
- Using both surnames joined by a hyphen is recommended if the first surname is common
- We recommend not using any particles found in surnames. If used, they must be joined with a hyphen
- In terms of the place of work
- Institutional affiliation should always be included
- The order to follow is:
- Research structure you are assigned to
- Universitat Politècnica de València
- Postal address, city and country.
- If it belongs to a mixed unit that is overseen by several institutions, all of them will be included.
- See UPV's rules on scientific signatures and the Spanish Science and Technology Foundation's recommendations for authors and electronic addresses.
