Using the same signature in all publications throughout your professional career is important, as this will avoid dispersion of production while also improving bibliometric indicators such as h-index.

In 2008, UPV signed a regulation on scientific signatures that basically sets out the following indications:

  • In terms of the author's name
    • If the surname is uncommon, use just this surname and the complete given name, or the initial or initials in the case of compound given names
    • Using both surnames joined by a hyphen is recommended if the first surname is common
    • We recommend not using any particles found in surnames. If used, they must be joined with a hyphen
  • In terms of the place of work
